Flower Tattoo Designs and their Meanings

While women are the primary wearers of flower tattoo designs, it is not unheard of for men to have them as well. For the men, a flower is representative of an important female in their life, whether it is a mom, girlfriend or wife. For the women, choosing a flower is often based on both the appearance of the flower as well as the specific meaning the flower has.

Meanings behind Flowers

When searching through the many flower tattoo designs, it is often helpful to know the symbolic meanings of some of them. While you may love the look and color of daffodils, you may not want it to grace your body once you find out that its symbolic representation is deceitfulness. A black rose could symbolize death or even the dark forces of nature, depending on your mood and life situation. (more…)

Careful with your Chinese Tattoo

Filed under: Designs, Tips - 11 Mar 2008

The oriental culture is steeped in history which lends a certain mystique to how many people, especially the Western civilization, view it. That is likely why when someone is looking to permanently ink their body, they choose a Chinese tattoo. For the most part these tattoos are represented by either special symbols or even signs of the Chinese Zodiac.

Be Careful with your Body Ink

Many people see the characters in the Chinese language as a thing of complex beauty, admiring the fine lines and detailing. However, therein lays the danger when you seek out a tattoo artist to ink your Chinese tattoo. Unless you luck out and get a tattoo artist who understands the complexities of the Chinese language and the fact that one symbol or character could mean several different things, you may not end up with what you thought you were getting. The Cross Tattoo and its Meanings

The cross has long been seen as a symbol of religion and of faith in God but in ancient times, before there really was religion, the cross was viewed in other ways. Its personal interpretation is why the cross tattoo is very popular among the people seeking out their very own inked skin art. In fact, for the last two hundred years, the cross has featured prominently in tattoos inked on Latin Americans as well as sailors, firemen and service people in the military.

Representation of the T Shape

The cross has been featured prominently in many cultures and time frames including the Neolithic period. Carvings on rock and cave paintings showed cross-like shapes representing the seasons or even the four basic directions of the wind. While your cross tattoo may not be chosen because of this ancient tie, it gives you an idea of how long ago the shape came into being. (more…)

Choosing Butterfly Tattoo Art

Butterfly tattoo art is commonly chosen by females. Seldom do males choose butterflies for their tattoos although there are some unique male individuals who might. There are many butterfly tattoo art designs to choose from and these come in several classifications that range from big butterfly tattoo designs, tribal butterfly designs and the smaller, less conspicuous, butterfly tattoo art designs.

Reasons for Choosing a Butterfly Tattoo

Black Dragon Tattoos

A black dragon tattoo is actually one of the most sought after tattoos worldwide. There is a certain fixation for mythical creatures as tattoos and a black dragon tattoo tops this list. Dragons of other colors can also be included in some of the more requested tattoos. Other mythical beasts that are popular in tattoos are mermaids and unicorns.

Black Dragon Tattoo Ink Composition

Usually, black tattoo ink is made from powdered crystals and minerals as well as some extract from soot. Some temporary black dragon tattoo inks may be made from black henna, which has some negative side effects. Temporary tattoos are applied externally compared to a needle piercing one’s skin to apply the tattoo ink internally. These temporary tattoos usually last more than a week - even up to three weeks - depending on how often you wash the skin it is applied on. The henna is applied on the skin and left to dry for about an hour or so and then washed off. The longer the henna is left on the skin the darker the temporary tattoo is. (more…)

So Your Teenager Wants an Anastasia Tattoo?

Filed under: Designs, Tips - 01 Mar 2008

Teenagers can be quite difficult to handle at times. Even if your kid had been very even tempered and loving when he or she was small, he or she is bound to change when he or she grows up. According to experts, teenagers want to establish a separate personality from their parents and that is why they often rebel and disobey their parents. If your little darling has reached this stage and he or she is starting to assert him/herself, you’d better watch out.

If you teenager comes home one day and asks you if he or she can get an Anastasia tattoo, don’t start screaming and giving a speech about responsibility. Just because your teenager wants an Anastasia tattoo does not mean that he or she has forgotten all about responsibility. Instead of launching into a speech about the demerits of getting an Anastasia tattoo, you need to keep an open mind and listen to what your kid has to say. (more…)
